"It's huge for us to have a Championship Game at home"
At the ELF 2025 press conference, two of the ELF’s biggest homegrown raised stars spoke about what it meant for them to have the ELF Championship played in their hometown of Stuttgart.
Marcel Dabo found his way to the NFL in 2022 after one standout season in the ELF with the Stuttgart Surge. The German defensive back has now spent the past three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. Dabo spoke on what the ELF has done for his career, helping him reach new heights and play at the highest level.
“I am extremely thankful. It doesn't matter how talented you are, if you don't have a platform to showcase your abilities. If this platform doesn't exist, then it's even more difficult. The chance to play against future and former NFL players in the ELF is extremely valuable.“
Dabo went on to speak about how he will always be connected to the ELF and his hometown team.
"Even though I am not here anymore, my heart is still in Stuttgart. When I played here in 2021, it was a little different. It is unbelievable to see how the team has developed."
"I am the unofficial ELF ambassador in the Colts' locker room. Many NFL players are aware of the ELF and have family members or former teammates that have played in Europe. It is great to see the game growing every year."
One of the ELF’s biggest homegrown stars was also in attendance in Stuttgart Surge, receiver Louis Geyer. The all-star is also a product of Stuttgart’s American football scene, growing up playing for the Stuttgart Scorpions. Homegrown or not, Geyer has 2,854 yards and 32 touchdowns during his four seasons in the ELF, making him the league’s all-time leading receiver in yards and touchdowns (tie).
Now Geyer has a chance to break through and win his first championship at home in Stuttgart. Geyer spoke on the news that the 2025 ELF Championship game would be in Stuttgart.
“It was huge for us to have a championship game at home. We thought a lot about it, but we are focused on the next goal every week. We focus on preparation and getting better every week “
Geyer spoke on how the ELF has changed his life through the raising the level of American football in Europe:
“I have the greatest respect and am thankful that for us players, it was amazing that my parents could watch my games at home, and I could showcase my talents on a large scale.”
