"If you google 'Defense wins championships', they gotta show you this Super Bowl"
What a surprising Super Bowl outcome! Not the fact, that the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the 2024 Champion Kansas City Chiefs. But the way they defeated them was more than impressive and something that could not have been expected.
The Eagles won 40-22 and didn’t give the slightest chance to Kansas City. 40-22 - that looks by far closer than it actually was. Certainly, the NFL’s final game of this season was a topic for the ELF stars as well.
The Eagles’ offensive unit was impressive, overwhelming the opposition with their efficiency and explosiveness. "What a way to end a dominant season for the Eagles' offense", said Nordic Storms running back star Glen Toonga. "To put up that many points and play the way they did in a Super Bowl isn’t just unprecedented - it just shows how complete their offense is. There was no point in that game where they looked uncomfortable or not in complete control."
The passing game, led by Jalen Hurts, delivered one of the most spectacular plays of the night. "Best play for me was the 'bomb' from Hurts to Smith - perfect route, perfect throw!", recalled Hamburg’s new WR Terryon Robinson, highlighting the pinpoint accuracy which led to the 34-0 lead in the 3rd quarter.
Philadelphias offense was great, but it was the Eagles' defense that truly decided the game. "If you google 'Defense wins championships', they gotta show you this Super Bowl", Rhein Fire’s OL Sven Breidenbach remarked.
The Eagles' defensive front was relentless, putting the Chiefs' offense under constant pressure. "The Eagles' D-line took the game over and shut down both the Chiefs' run and pass attacks", said Stuttgart’s QB Reilly Hennessey, who reunited with old high school friends in Phoenix to watch the game.
As ELF’s sack leader and defensive powerhouse, Kyle Kitchens had a special appreciation for the Eagles’ relentless defensive front: "I enjoyed watching the Eagles’ D-line get after QB Mahomes." He watched the action at the Watch Party at Hard Rock Cafe in Hamburg.
Ott Eric Ottender, who is new to the league and recently signed with the Wroclaw Panthers, provided a vivid analogy: "The Eagles' D-line made the Chiefs' O-line look like little kids trying to stop their older brother from taking candy from them: the effort was fierce but without much success."
While the game itself was a spectacle, some players found other memorable moments throughout the night. "My highlight was definitely the Halftime show - Kendrick’s performance was amazing", said Breidenbach, referencing to rap superstar Kendrick Lamar’s show.
For ELF MVP Toonga, the experience was about more than just football: "I had the privilege of traveling to Zürich to watch the game. I’m super appreciative of how football allows me to connect with different people in different places."
Estonian Ottensen also had a very unique Super Bowl experience: "I was actually fortunate enough to enjoy it with Estonian commentary, which happened for the first time ever!" For him, DeVonta Smith's touchdown stood out as a moment of pure brilliance. "Poetry in motion", he described it. "Also, Cooper DeJean’s Pick-6 was sensational."
It was a truly perfect Super Bowl Sunday for the Eagles - in every aspect.
