Hot Take Friday: Four touchdown debut and more
After the bye week, there are a lot of exciting games waiting this weekend. Here are my Hot Takes for Week 11 of the European League of Football:
The Rhein Fire have been nothing short of dominant in most of their games, winning every matchup by at least two scores with only one exception: The game against the Hamburg Sea Devils. With Rhein Fire coming out of a double bye week and Hamburg desperately needing a win to keep their post-season hopes alive, this game will be closer than most people think. The rematch of the 27-22 Week 2 game will be a personal one as well. Jadrian Clark will once again take on his former team, while Glen Toonga is facing the Sea Devils for the first time in his career. Get ready for an intense and close matchup in front of a potential record-breaking home crowd.
The Munich Ravens are among the league’s best teams, even though their record does not reflect that at the moment. Standing at 4-4, Munich is currently out of the playoffs and need to win at least three of their next four games to have a realistic chance to make the post-season. They’ll be facing the Conference top-dogs Stuttgart Surge on Sunday. With the Ravens finding their groove and being able to play a good second half last game, I expect them to beat the Surge in Reilly Hennessey’s first game after his injury. I believe that Munich will be able to take advantage of the offensive shake-up for the Surge and win a close game at Stuttgart.
The Raiders made headlines at the signing deadline, releasing quarterback Christian Strong and bringing in NAIA standout and Morningside University legend Joe Dolincheck. Even though the Raiders didn't have a lot of time to practice, despite having two bye weeks, due to a lot of players and coaches being with the Austrian national team, Dolincheck is already taking charge of the offense and is feeling comfortable with the Raiders’ system, which is very similar to the Mustangs’. I expect Dolincheck and his offense to have a strong showing against the Helvetic Guards, with him throwing for four touchdowns in his first game as a Raider.
