Hot Take Friday: Championship Game Edition

With the ELF Championship Game right ahead, it is time for a new pair of Hot Takes.

Most rushing yards in a Championship Game ever

The 2023 Championship Game will not only be the matchup between the two best teams in Europe but also a duel between two top five rushing offenses in the ELF. Both, Rhein Fire and Stuttgart Surge have proven to be able to dominate games on the ground during the regular season and the playoffs. Even though there were plenty of teams with great rushing attacks in the past Championship Games, those matchups were usually decided through the air. The highest amount of rushing yards was recorded in the 2021 Championship Game, when the Hamburg Sea Devils and Frankfurt Galaxy combined for a total of 220 rushing yards. This record will be broken this Sunday when Glen Toonga and Nicolas Khadar will take the field. Both are extremely efficient runners and have great offensive lines in front of them. I predict that we’ll see at least 250 combined rushing yards, but I would not be surprised if the total was over 300.

The Stuttgart Surge will complete the Cinderella Story

The Stuttgart Surge have the chance to complete the biggest miracle run in the history of European football, winning a championship after going 0-12 in the previous season. But in their way stand the undefeated Rhein Fire, who will have a chance to win the title at their homefield and complete the first ever undefeated season in the ELF. With one of the most productive offenses Europe has ever seen and a shutdown defense, Jim Tomsula’s team is going into the game as the clear-cut favorites. But I believe that after upsetting the reigning champions, the Surge will shock the world for a second time and defeat the Rhein Fire to claim their first ever European championship.
