Homegrowns of the Week: Wide receiver standouts
Last weekend had some dominating performances by homegrown players. Here are the best of them:
Dawid Brzozowski finds himself on the homegrowns of the week list for the fourth time this season. The Polish standout put on a show against the Prague Lions, rushing for 190 yards and two touchdowns, while also catching a 36-yard pass. The 22-year-old is leading the European League of Football with 832 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns.
Lukáš Kadlec was one of the few bright spots on an outmatched Prague Lions team on Saturday. The 22-year-old wide receiver caught five passes for a total of 103 yards and scored one of the two Lions’ touchdowns against the Wrocław Panthers.
Louis Geyer had one of the best games of his young career on Saturday evening in Milano. The 21-year-old put up new career highs with nine receptions for 217 yards and one touchdown against a struggling Seamen defense. The 2021 Rookie of the Year shows that he is one of the most dangerous receivers in the league, despite being one of the youngest players at his position.
Speaking of young standouts at the wide receiver position, Juan Flores-Calderon had another good performance against the Surge defense. The 19-year-old turned his four catches into 109 yards and two touchdowns, proving that you don’t need a lot of receptions to have an impact in a game.
Sebastian Brand had a great game for the Frankfurt Galaxy this weekend. The safety recorded two tackles, a TFL, a 55-yard pick-6 and a safety, scoring a total of eight points on defense for the 2021 champions.
Johannes Zirngibl had himself a day against the Helvetic Guards. The Ravens’ top performer had nine tackles along with three tackles for loss, a sack, and a pass break-up. “JZ” definitely was a home run signing for Munich this off season as he is leading the Ravens with 10 tackles for loss and already recovered two fumbles.
Jan-Phillip Bombek had another great performance for the Sea Devils on Sunday. The former Colorado State pass rusher had two tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble in a defensive war that ended 18-14 for the Hamburg Sea Devils.
Centurions defensive end Janek Wenke also makes the list this week. Despite the 23-year-old’s 5 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks, his team was not able to get their 14-3 lead over the finish line.
