Homegrown of the Year Nominees

The 2024 season comes to a spectacular end in the Rhein Fire versus Vienna Vikings championship game. Before that, the ELF celebrates its Honors. The “Homegrown of the Year” category is also included.

Only domestic players, meaning players born in the country of the franchise, are considered in this category. So no imports.

We take a look at the nominees who were able to shine with strong performances and often game-deciding scenes.

Panthers Running Back - Dawid Brzozowski

What an impressive year from Dawid Brzozowski. In his third season in the ELF, the Polish running back once again proved to be the heart of his offense. Despite finishing second in the Eastern Conference, the Panthers missed the playoffs - but it wasn't down to Brzozowski's 214 rushes for 119 yards and eight touchdowns. Through the air, the 23-year-old Homegrown collected 15 catches for 81 yards. Brzozowski could get the award back to back.

Surge Wide Receiver - Louis Geyer

Geyer can also look back on a strong season. With the Stuttgart Surge, he narrowly failed to reach the finals against Rhein Fire. The fact that the German franchise got there is also down to Geyer. The pass receiver caught 71 passes for 854 yards and 13 touchdowns. The 23-year-old German is therefore responsible for 78 points for his team.

Mercenaries Linebacker - Jonathan Falk

In the season following their rebranding, the Helvetic Mercenaries continue to lack success. Even a strong Jonathan Falk was unable to change that, which in no way diminishes the defender's performance. The linebacker recorded incredible 146 tackles (second most of the league), 11.5 of which were for loss. He also had two sacks, a pass break up, an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. The list is long. What a season for the Swiss homegrown.
