Helvetic Mercenaries rebuild: Construction in progress

The Helvetic Mercenaries have made several big time moves this off-season as they try to improve on last year’s 1-11 record. So far with just a few weeks of the off-season the Swiss team has been one of a few teams turning heads.

It starts at the top

Sonja and Sandro Moor were announced as the two new owners of the Swiss Franchise back in June. The stability of the Moor’s ownership has been a welcomed comfort to the franchise, as Sonja and Sandro have pledged: “We are here to stay.”

A top tier coaching staff

The Swiss squad started quickly signing Marcus Herford as their head coach. Herford brought in veteran coaches Michael Wood, Nordly Capi, Chris Scelfo, Dr. Drametrice Smith, and Joshua Fitzgerald. The robust coaching staff shows that the Mercenaries are looking to invest in their player development this year and continue the growth they saw from a young core last season.

Old faces new places

The Swiss squad made several splash import signings, starting with All-Star WR Aaron Jackson, who was one of the league’s top pass catchers last year. Throwing him the ball will be former Cologne Centurions quarterback Isaiah Weed.

On defense, they bring in Joc Crawford who moves over from running back to defensive back as well as Demarco Artis at defensive end. New defensive coordinator Michael Wood will surely bring with him some european veterans as he hopes to make the Mercenaries defense a formidable unit in the ELF's central conference.

Cautiously optimistic

The Mercenaries have made some great moves that their fans are certainly happy about. The plethora of experienced coaches and veteran imports should help bring in new homegrown talents, as every ELF fan knows a team is only as good as its homegrown base.
