When Madre London dominated the ELF’s debut season with his exceptional rushing skills, wearing down the Cologne Centurions' opponents and setting multiple records, many believed those records would stand for a long time.

His season rushing touchdown record became the motivation for every running back in the league. But when the Hamburg Sea Devils brought in Glen Toonga in 2022, it seemed that the record was in jeopardy. In his first season with the Sea Devils, Toonga didn’t quite reach London’s rushing yard total, but with 21 touchdowns, he was just one short of London's 22-touchdown benchmark. It was clear that the record was within reach, especially for Toonga.

With his move to Rhein Fire in 2023, Toonga proved that he could excel regardless of the team. Even though he started playing only from the seventh game on, he still became a top 3 running back in both rushing yards and touchdowns. His impressive season was capped off with a victory in the championship game.

Third season for the record

This season, Toonga is playing for Rhein Fire from the start. Benefiting from a passing game that is below expectations compared to last season, Toonga and his strong offensive line have created opportunities that promise a record-breaking season. Week after week, Toonga has delivered incredible numbers, and now, after 9 weeks, he has broken Madre London’s single-season rushing touchdown record. Toonga now compiles impressive 1,305 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns.

These remarkable numbers are not solely Toonga’s achievement but also a testament to the strength of the Rhein Fire team, which provides him with the freedom to perform. Head Coach Jim Tomsula echoed this sentiment: "We’re thrilled for Glenn, but we always see such performances as a team success, with everyone playing a part."

With three more games left in the regular season, the only questions left are: How many more rushing touchdowns will Toonga add to his tally - and will he become the MVP of this season?
