Frankfurt Galaxy begin a new chapter with Bart Andrus
Following the 4-8 2024 season the Galaxy have made several major changes to their team as they look to turn the page on a forgetful season. For the proud franchise It was the first losing season for the Galaxy organization since 2005 when they were part of NFL Europe.
The major move so far has been Thomas Kösling moving to a front office role and stepping down as Frankfurt’s head coach. Kösling won the ELF’s first ever title back in 2021, he served as Frankfurts head coach since 2019 for the Frankfurt Universe before they joined the ELF as the Galaxy in 2021.
Kösling bleeds purple through and through joining the team as a player in 2007 before becoming defensive coordinator in 2014. Frankfurt is thrilled to have him take over as the team's sports director.
Taking over for the German coach will be American veteran Bart Andrus who brings with him an impressive resume of NFL experience. The 66 year-old spent 8 seasons in NFL Europe in the 2000’s first as offensive coordinator for the Rhein Fire, before taking over as the head coach for the Amsterdam Admirals. In 2005, Andrus was named “coach of the year” leading the Admirals to the NFL Europe title.
Ironically, Andrus lost the World Bowl the next season in 2006 to the Frankfurt Galaxy.
Other than his time in Europe, Andrus has spent five seasons coaching in the NFL, and has been a head coach in the CFL, UFL, TSL, and USFL.
Frankfurt will likely have several roster changes moving forward with what will be primarily a new coaching staff under Andrus. Expect the Galaxy to find their new quarterback soon as they gear up for the 2025 season.
