"Focused and physical" – Vikings ready for Raiders

The Vienna Vikings and Raiders Tirol will face each other for the second time this season in what has become one of the fiercest rivalries in the European League of Football: the Battle of Austria. So far, the Vikings have been perfect in this matchup, winning all seven games against the Raiders in ELF history.

But the Vikings know that past wins mean nothing on the field this weekend.

Vikings want to bounce back

After suffering their first loss of the season in a close game against Rhein Fire, the Vikings are looking to bounce back with a strong performance. Head Coach Chris Calaycay believes that loss could be a wake-up call for the team.

"The loss against Fire was a learning experience," Calaycay said. "We didn’t execute well enough. But we are focused on fixing the details and responding the right way."

Despite the setback, Vienna still holds the #2 playoff seed – a strong position heading into the second half of the season. But the team knows that nothing is guaranteed.

Don’t rely on the streak

The Vikings’ undefeated record against the Raiders is impressive, but Coach Calaycay isn’t letting the team focus on that.

"The winning streak against the Raiders is, of course, a cool thing," he said. "But the cards are shuffled each gameday. We have to go into this one focused and physical."

The Raiders, now with quarterback N’Kosi Perry back, are a stronger team than earlier in the season. The Vikings are preparing for a tougher matchup and know they need to be ready for anything.

Execution is key

For Coach Calaycay, it’s not about what the Raiders do – it’s about how his team performs.

"We need to execute our game plan. That’s the only thing that really matters to me," he said. "It doesn’t matter where we play, or who we play, as long as we play to our standard."

With the playoffs approaching, every game becomes more important. The Vikings will use the Battle of Austria not just to continue their winning streak, but to prove they are still one of the top teams in the ELF.
