First ELF Passing Leader Lukas O'Connor - remember him?
If you look at the first season of the European League of Football, one name in particular stands out: Lukas O'Connor. The quarterback played for the Wroclaw Panthers in 2021. It was his only year in the league, but a spectacular one.
The US import was one of only four players with a quarterback rating of 90. He also led the league with 2879 passing yards. O'Connor completed 60.8 percent of his passes that year and threw 2.18 times more touchdowns than interceptions.
He also shared the touchdown crown with Leipzig Kings Michael Birdsong. Both signal callers threw for 24 touchdowns in 2021.
He began his football career at high school in Culver City, his hometown in California. Here he was honored as All-Conference QB and Player of the Year. He then went to college.
He played his freshman year at FCS James Madison University, an NCAA Division I college in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Here he was used as a wide receiver. He transferred to Chapman University in Orange, California, to play quarterback. He then moved to West Liberty University in West Virginia for his master's degree in coaching and sports leadership.
O'Connor played here from 2017 to 2018, completing 56 passes for 733 yards and seven touchdowns in his ten games for WLU. He was already active as a coach in college. Among other jobs, he was an athletic coach at the Athletic Republic of Orange County and assistant coach at his high school in Culver City.
In 2019, he went to Europe and started as a quarterback for the Bratislava Monarchs. He then moved to the German Football League. Here he played for the Stuttgart Scorpions. In 2021, he made the move to the Panthers and the ELF.
Back in 2020, O'Connor founded his own coaching company called “Master Quarterback”. As a personal trainer, he trains young quarterbacks in all the important attributes at the position. After his season with the Panthers, he ended his active career to dedicate himself fully to his company.
