The European League of Football (ELF) is set to make waves once again with an electrifying showdown between two of their franchises: the Hamburg Sea Devils and the Madrid Bravos. This year, the league is taking the action for one special event beyond its traditional boundaries, bringing American football to the picturesque town of Sibenik, Croatia. The ELF's first International Game.
Fans can look forward to an unforgettable experience on August 24, 2024, when the Šubićevac Stadium will host not just a thrilling football match but also a celebration of American football itself.
Since the league’s inaugural season in 2021, the Hamburg Sea Devils have established themselves as one of the powerhouses of the ELF. As a founding member, the Sea Devils have consistently been at the top of their game, reaching the Championship Game twice and drawing large crowds wherever they play. This season alone, they've captivated over 45,000 fans across northern Germany, in cities like Bremen, Hamburg and Hanover.
The Sea Devils' "Northern Germany Tour" has been a resounding success, and now, they are ready to bring their team to Croatia. The matchup against the Madrid Bravos, a contender for the ELF Championship Game, carries high stakes. The Bravos, led by General Manager Jaime Martin, are fighting for a playoff spot, making this game crucial for their season. "The last game of the regular season will be very important for us as we are trying to compete in the playoffs. We hope the people from Croatia support us and enjoy a super good football game," Martin remarked.
The Sea Devils are equally excited about the international stage. Miguel Boock, Sports Director of the Hamburg Sea Devils, shared his enthusiasm, stating, "We are very pleased that the league has decided to allow us to present American football and the ELF on an extended level in Europe. It will be a unique experience to be able to participate in this International Game!"
In Week 11 of the European League of Football, the Hamburg Sea Devils and Madrid Bravos delivered a first encounter, with the Bravos dominating the Sea Devils 52-9. The Sea Devils faced a determined Bravos team fighting to secure their playoff position. Despite the Sea Devils’ relentless pressure, the Bravos managed to stay in contention, showcasing their strength and passion.
With the upcoming rematch in Week 14, set on international turf in Croatia, both teams will be looking to adjust their strategies and capitalize on the lessons learned from their previous clash. As they prepare to meet again, this time in Sibenik, the stakes are even higher, with both teams aiming to finish their season strong. "I’ve heard a lot of good about Croatia and it just got better by adding a football game there! It will be an amazing experience not just for our players but our fans that like to travel,” said D’Angelo Fulford, quarterback of the Hamburg Sea Devils.
The matchup between the Sea Devils and the Bravos is more than just a game - it’s the highlight of a festival that promises to immerse fans in the full American football experience. On game day, the celebration starts with a "Power-Party" at the stadium. The event offers something for everyone, from die-hard football fans to newcomers to the sport. The festival includes a street food market, offering a variety of local and international dishes, plenty of beverage stands, and a football experience area where fans can engage with the sport interactively.
