ELF record breaker Markell Castle eager to make 2024 debut in Frankfurt

After a phenomenal 2023 season in Munich, Castle looks to reach new heights with the Frankfurt Galaxy.

The league's top receiver begins a new chapter in Frankfurt

The Euro football veteran had perhaps his best season ever last year, amassing 97 receptions for 1,580 yards and 17 touchdowns, leading the ELF in every category. Castle also broke the ELF record for receiving yards and tied the receiving touchdown record, all while helping lead the expansion Munich Ravens team to a winning record. His season didn’t go unnoticed, winning Offensive Player of the Year and earning a First Team All-Star selection.

This off-season, the league's top receiver opted to take his talents to the Frankfurt Galaxy. Since coming back to Germany, Castle and his new Galaxy teammates have been working hard to prepare for the upcoming season, focusing on a physical and competitive play style.

“The pre-season been very intense, I can say that. We are definitely going to be a very physical team this year. A lot of guys are getting after it for sure. It’s been a very competitive camp. Going into week one we're going to play our game and compete, that’s for sure.”

A dynamic QB-WR duo returns

One of the contributing factors to the move to Frankfurt was the connection between Castle and new Galaxy quarterback Luke Zahradka. The quarterback and receiver duo already know each other well, having played together with the Milano Seamen in the Italian Football League in 2022. Since being reunited this spring, Castle and Zahradka have been busy rebuilding their chemistry for the upcoming season.

“It’s been fun, man. Obviously, our timing always takes some time to get back. We are both in a new system. It’s also totally two different leagues than the past when played together, so obviously making adjustments is always key.”

Castle and the Galaxy will make their 2024 debut against the reigning ELF champions the Rhein Fire in Frankfurt this Sunday at 15:25 CET. Besides last year's top receiver, the Frankfurt offense has talented offensive playmakers such as Sandro Platzgummer, Thomas Fischbach, Kevin Kaya, and Nico Strahmann who aim to make Frankfurt's offense one of the league's best. Yet, the 2023 offensive player of the year doesn't take for granted what needs to be done for their team to succeed.

“Offensively it’s no secret, we want to be explosive and disciplined. Take what the defense gives us and make teams as uncomfortable as possible.”

Don't miss Markell Castle and the Frankfurt Galaxy season debut against the Rhein Fire this Sunday, June 2nd at 15:25 CET.
