Dragons head coach David Shelton: "They'll play well"
For the first time in ELF history, two Spanish franchises will clash this Saturday as the Madrid Bravos make their debut against the seasoned Barcelona Dragons. This matchup is not just a game but a significant cultural event, with many former Dragons players now on the Bravos roster and rivalry weekend ahead.
Head coach David Shelton of the Barcelona Dragons has high expectations for the game. "We expect the same as we did against the Mercenaries. They’re playing at home, they’ll play well, and they have players who used to play for us, so we expect them to be motivated and play at a high level," Shelton said. The biggest challenge for the Dragons is dealing with the unknowns of the Bravos. "It's similar to facing the Helvetic team; there’s the unknown factor. But we know they’re professional, just like us. They have new players, just like us. We know some of their players and their abilities, so we know they’ll play at a high level," Shelton added.
The game against Madrid holds special significance for many players. "After we won the game in Switzerland, that’s when it started. We began preparing for this game as soon as we left the stadium. It’s a big deal locally, with many cultural factors involved. People have told me it means a lot. The players have known each other since they were young from the Spanish league. It’s a big rivalry," Shelton explained.
As the Dragons and Bravos prepare to meet on the field, fans can expect a thrilling game marked by high stakes, intense rivalry, and a showcase of top-tier football talent.
