DKMS and ELF: United in the fight against blood cancer

United in the fight against blood cancer: European League of Football and DKMS promote stem cell donations in the stadiums in Week 12

As announced before the start of the 2024 season, Week 12 of the European League of Football will be characterised by the partnership with DKMS. Then it's time to open your mouth, put your sticks in, be a donor - and tackle blood cancer together.

"Society is like football: strength comes from community, you can only be successful as a team. There are people for whom it's about more than just scoring the next touchdown. They are fighting for their lives. The ELF is proud of the cooperation with DKMS and we want to use our reach and the support of the community to help," says Patrick Esume, Commissioner of the European League of Football.

"They are fighting for their lives"

DKMS will have stands at the games Berlin Thunder versus Panthers Wroclaw, Stuttgart Surge versus Raiders Tirol, Cologne Centurions versus Paris Musketeers, Munich Ravens versus Barcelona Dragons and Rhein Fire versus Hamburg Sea Devils to provide information on blood cancer and stem cell donation. At Frankfurt Galaxy, the campaign will continue on 25th of August as part of the match against Paris.

The joint aim of the ELF and DKMS is to inspire as many football fans as possible to register as donors in order to give people suffering from blood cancer a second chance at life. They can register in the database in just a few minutes at the registration stands.

"There are people who are dependent on a stem cell donation"

"Football is Family! That's a motto we live by and we have already achieved great successes in the fight against blood cancer in the past. There are people who are dependent on a stem cell donation and the more supporters who register for DKMS in the stadiums as part of the themed match day, the greater the chance of saving lives. We are grateful to the ELF and their teams for giving us this prominent stage," says DKMS Managing Director Stephan Schumacher.
