Busy week for the Prague Lions - a lot of signings ahead of next season

The Prague Lions are facing a crucial season in the European League of Football. Last season, the team from the Czech Republic only won one game and lost all eleven others. Not enough for the ambitious team.

To improve, the front office didn't sit around lazily this offseason. Instead, in addition to new head coach Dave Warner, other notable players and coaches were signed. Familiar and new names also joined the team last week. A summary.

New QB1 in the house

With Javarian Smith, the Lions have not only signed a new quarterback. They have also brought in their new QB1. Although Smith failed to make the cut with the Hamburg Sea Devils last season, he put in a solid performance in the few games in which he was allowed to play.

In order to properly protect him, the team from Prague also invested in their offensive line. The contracts of the starters Oliver Ďurč and Jaroslav Hrdlička were extended by a further year. Lucas Soares da Silva, a promising O-lineman from the Milano Seamen, joins the Lions.

There are also plenty of offensive options. Radim Kalous, probably the most reliable wide receiver of the past Lions season, is staying. Running back Pavel Juhasz has also extended his contract.

More additions for defense

The defense has also been taken care of. Štěpán Švec can also be found in the backfield next season. The 26-year-old played his first games for the Lions last season. DB Antonin Kvapil also signed a new contract for the coming season. The same applies to linebacker Jakub Ječný.

Lautaro Frecha was also hired. The Argentinian played for the Barcelona Dragons for four years.  In his 33 ELF games, the strong safety made over 200 tackles.

The defensive line has been very thin so far. But the Lions are now also making additions here. Jan Vitvar and Daniel Pohořalý remain loyal to the team. In addition, a new D-liner, Jonáš Hlava, was brought in from city rivals, the Prague Black Panthers.

The Prague Lions are therefore on a promising path towards the new season. The goal should be clear: Sign even more talent and fill the remaining squad slots with homegrowns, back-ups and talented players.
