The 2025 European League of Football playoffs will begin on Saturday with the matchup between the Madrid Bravos and Stuttgart Surge. It will be the first time these two teams meet in ELF competition, making the outcome difficult to predict. Looking at the regular season statistics, however, one thing stands out: fans can expect an offensive showcase.

Madrid Bravos: Passing game sets the tone

The Madrid Bravos return to the playoffs in their second season in the ELF. Last year, their run ended in the Wildcard Round with a clear defeat to Rhein Fire, the eventual champion. This year, the Bravos aim to take the next step.

Scoring an average of 42.3 points per game, they hold the league's second-best offense – just behind their upcoming opponent Stuttgart. The offense is driven by the outstanding connection between quarterback Reid Sinnett and wide receiver Aron Cruickshank. Another reliable target is Justus Seelig. Officially listed as a running back, Seelig also lines up as a receiver, which adds flexibility to the passing game.

As a result, the Bravos rely heavily on their passing game. An average of 347.4 passing yards per game holds a commanding lead in the league standings, while their rushing game averages 150.8 yards (8th). Over the past three games, Sinnett found Cruickshank and Seelig for seven touchdowns.

Defensively, Madrid has been less reliable. They allow an average of 24.8 points per game, placing them 8th in the league. On average, they allow 203 passing yards (7th) and 148.9 rushing yards (12th). To control Stuttgart's offense, the Bravos' defense will need to perform above its regular-season level.

Stuttgart Surge: Efficiency on both sides of the ball

Stuttgart Surge enter the postseason with one of the league's strongest defensive units. They allow just 16.1 points per game, the second-best mark in the ELF. On average, they allow 182.9 passing yards (5th) and only 97.1 rushing yards (2nd).

Their offense, however, is even more impressive. Led by quarterback Reilly Hennessey, Stuttgart has been the most efficient scoring team in the league. Hennessey frequently targets homegrown wide receiver Louis Geyer and running back Tomiwa Oyewo. Together, the trio has produced eight touchdowns over the past three games.

While Stuttgart ranks 4th in passing yards (264.8) and 9th in rushing yards (150.4), they lead the league in the most crucial category: points scored. With 43.1 points per game, the Surge is the ELF's highest-scoring offense.

Stuttgart owe this number in part to a type of player who rarely takes center stage – the kicker. Timo Bronn has been outstanding, scoring 91 points during the regular season – the most by any kicker in the league. His consistency could make the difference in a tight playoff matchup.

Outcome remains open

If the Bravos' high-flying offense meets Stuttgart’s efficient scoring machine, fans can expect a thrilling shootout. The numbers suggest a high-scoring game, but a key factor will be which team can impose its style under playoff pressure. Stuttgart aims to reach the final, which will take place in their home city. Madrid, meanwhile, is determined not to see its playoff run end in the Wildcard Round again.

One thing is certain: both teams will leave everything on the field to secure a spot in the semifinals.
