Are the Berlin Thunder ready to snap the 0-5 losing streak against the Sea Devils and clinch a spot in the playoffs at the same time this Sunday?

Berlin Thunder LB Paul Seifert: “We do have what it takes”

The Berlin Thunder are facing one of the most important games in their young franchise history this Sunday. With a win against the 4-7 Hamburg Sea Devils at home in Week 14, the Berlin Thunder would automatically clinch their spot in the Wild Card Round of the ELF playoffs. This would be the first playoff appearance of the German franchise since the inaugural season of the league itself in 2021.

“I’m very optimistic that we can finally break this streak on Sunday,” Berlin Thunder linebacker Paul Seifert acknowledged. “We didn’t play very good in the first game against Hamburg but that’s going to be different this weekend. We do have the skills, the right coaching and of course, the motivation to make it to playoffs and win the game against Hamburg.”

The last outings against the Sea Devils all resulted into losses. All of the last five matchups were won by the Sea Devils, with the last loss suffered in Week 4 of the 2023 season. However, the Sea Devils are already out of playoff contention for the first time in ELF history with a record of 4-7. So, when will the Thunder be able to overcome that losing streak if not now?

Seifert: "I don't think it's a lot of pressure"

“I don’t think it’s a lot of pressure, we see it more like a great opportunity,” the 26-year-old linebacker commented on how he feels about the upcoming game. “Especially for me as someone that’s been there from the beginning and never made it to the playoffs it’s just very exciting and it’s the same for the team. We’re just thankful for the chance to make it to the playoffs. It’s a great opportunity. It’s a home game, a lot of people are going to be at Jahn Sportpark. Plus, we can win against Hamburg for the first time.“

There is a lot at stake on Sunday for the Thunder. But is the German franchise ready to overcome the fear of going 0-6 against Hamburg and losing out on a possible playoff spot at the same time? Only time will tell. But the fans will have one of the most exciting matchups of the season coming up in Berlin at 1pm CEST on Sunday.

Seifert is excited for the fans who will come out to support their favorite team. “[The fans] will see an amazing game on Sunday. The team is motivated and it’s going to be great. First time in history to defeat Hamburg and make it to the playoffs. It’s going to be a great atmosphere at the stadium! We appreciate everyone that’s coming to Prenzlauer Berg this weekend. Let’s get it!“
