Milano Seamen sign former NFL kicker Giorgio Tavecchio
The Italian kicker will join the new franchise after two seasons with the Barcelona Dragons.
An NFL and European League of Football veteran will join the Milano Seamen. With Giorgio Tavecchio, the new franchise is getting an experienced kicker that will also serve as kicking coach during the team’s first season in the league.
Tavecchio, who was born and raised in Milan, joined the Cal football team in 2008 as a walk-on and was perfect on his 25 extra point attempts as a freshman. After four seasons as a starter, the Italian declared for the 2012 NFL Draft, but was not selected by any team during the process. The former Golden Bear bounced around teams for a few off-seasons, before signing with the Oakland Raiders multiple times over a span of four years, playing in all 16 games during the 2017 season and winning an AFC Special Teams Player of the Week award. He signed with the Atlanta Falcons for the upcoming season, where he won another Special Teams Player of the Year award. After short stints with the Los Angeles Wildcats and Tennessee Titans, the Italian returned to Europe to play for the Barcelona Dragons.
In his two seasons with the Dragons, Tavecchio has been one of the league’s premier kickers. With a league-leading 51 made extra points and 96 total points scored, the Italian was a cornerstone for the Spanish franchise. Now, the former NFL kicker will return to his hometown Milan, to play another year in the European League of Football. Serving as the kicking coach as well, should help his fellow kicker and punter and his future heir Matteo Felli to develop even further.
