“Something I'll never forget” - Reece Horn's favorite moment of the 2024 season

The 2024 season is in the books. A special season for the Vienna Vikings, who did not lose a single regular season game for the second time in a row. Although it wasn't enough to win the title in the championship game against Rhein Fire, it's still a season to remember.

It was also a special season for Vikings wide receiver Reece Horn. After all, the 31-year-old missed the entire pre-season and even week one. Not because the experienced US import was injured, but because he only joined the team ahead of Week 2.

"My favorite moment was really just getting that call from Chris to say we're rolling again, man. And I thought my playing days were done. And I still had a lot left in the tank," remembers Horn. A move that paid off for the Vikings.

Horn caught 75 passes for 1164 yards and 13 touchdowns and therefore the most in a generally strong Vienna Vikings offense. "A personal individual moment was being one of the best receivers in this league. A guy who wasn't even signed at the start of the season, who was written off by countless teams."

Reaching the Championship Game with family

Despite the defeat, Horn has some wonderful memories of the Championship Game in the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen. A big moment for the team and him personally.

"I had my family there. I had nine of them that flew over from the States. And I know I personally had a great game in that game. But obviously, it's a team sport. So it's we, not me. But it was still just as incredible to play in front of that atmosphere. I'm used to that, personally. But it was still such a crazy atmosphere." 41,364 fans were responsible for this breathtaking atmosphere.

A loudness that left an impression. Similar to Horn's Uncle Roger. "I remember warming up. And he just yells my name, Reece. And it echoes throughout this whole massive stadium. And I just hear it while my music was going. And I hear him. And I look over, and to see my family in the stands like that, it was something I'll never forget. And I get chills just talking about it right now."

Eyes already on the future

Horn will remember this season with pleasure: "Just playing for Vienna throughout this whole season, making plays for them, having fun doing it, having great chemistry with the guys on the team in the locker room, and then outside of football."

However, he is already looking forward to next season just as much: "And again, we're going to take it one at a time. But just know there are a lot of great things that I can't say right now that are coming to Vienna. We're excited for that. And we're excited to have things progress as they should."
