Saturday recap: Paris Musketeers win nail-biter in overtime

Madrid Bravos (7-4) at Paris Musketeers (9-2) 12-15

In one of the most anticipated games of the season, the Paris Musketeers hosted the Madrid Bravos. With the end of the regular season in sight, a win in this matchup would have boosted the chances for playoff football for both teams in a drastic way. Accordingly, emotions occasionally boiled over, resulting in multiple scuffles and ejections.

In a hard-fought match, the Musketeers came out on top in overtime.

In the first half, special teams mistakes and multiple crucial penalties wiped out promising drives, costing the Bravos points and giving Paris good field position on multiple drives.

A rushing touchdown from running back Chris Voumbo put the only points on the board in the first half. The Bravos turned the game on its head in the second half with big plays coming on the ground and trough the air.

First, running back Edu Molina broke loose on a rushing touchdown, then wide receiver Eduardo Perez caught a deep pass and took it 59 yards to the house.

The Paris offense could not get much going against a feisty Bravos defense. Especially the passing game struggled, as quarterback Zach Edwards finished the day with 117 passing yards. Just like the Bravos, the Musketeers also had a nice perfomance on defense, even though they gave up the two aforementioned big plays.

They stopped the Bravos offense multiple times on fourth down, giving their offense chance after chance. At last, Paris capitalized: With the game clock running down, quarterback Zach Edwards came up clutch and rushed for a touchdown to tie the game. However, the extra point was wide, putting the game in overtime.

On the first play of overtime, quarterback Steven Duncan fumbled the ball. On the other side, starting twleve and a half yards away from the end zone, the Paris offense could not punch it in. But this time, kicker Mathys Dupont put the ball through the sticks, gifting the Paris Musketeers a very important and much-celebrated victory.

Next week, the Bravos will face the Hamburg Sea Devils, the Musketeers will travel to Frankfurt to play against Galaxy.
