Inter-Divisional Games are set! Exciting Storylines ahead
The time has come! Preparations for the new season of the European League of Football are in full swing. Now that the divisions have been announced, the inter-divisional games have also been finalized. This means that the teams now know their opponents for the upcoming season.
The Inter-Divisional Games not only provide exciting matches, but also a lot of storylines. Let's take a look at a few of them.
What a stunner! Just a few weeks ago, Rhein Fire and the Vienna Vikings battled for the 2024 ELF title, with the Düsseldorf team coming out on top. Now the fans can look forward to two re-matches.
Each team plays each inter-divisional opponent twice - once at home and once away. The Vikings can therefore take revenge for the bitter defeat in the Championship Game. The Austrians can also achieve the impossible: three regular seasons without a defeat. To do that, however, they will have to get through Rhein Fire.
And for that, the Vikings also have to beat the Tirol Raiders. Because the neighbors from Austria are also among the Vikings' inter-divisional opponents. Particularly explosive: the two teams have already met six times in their ELF history. The Raiders did not win a single game.
In 2022, they lost 23-29 in Week 1 and 13-29 in Week 8. In 2023, they lost 13-34 in Week 6 and 7-13 in Week 7. Last season, they lost 6-27 in Week 2 and 19-27 in Week 7. If that's not motivation.
At the end of last season, the Hamburg Sea Devils suffered a painful defeat against the Madrid Bravos. The German team lost 13:63, but that was not all. After all, the game was also the first International Game in the history of the ELF.
The Hamburg team traveled all the way to Croatia, only to not have the slightest chance against the well-prepared Spaniards. The new-formed team should therefore be hungry for revenge. Maybe not in Croatia, but in Hamburg or Madrid - that should be enough.
One player in particular is likely to be the focus of this match: Goran Zec. The Serbian ended his one-year retirement this offseason to join the Enthroners. The safety proved in his three years in the league that he is particularly dangerous against the pass.
In 33 ELF games, Zec not only made 208 tackles, but also 13 interceptions, making him the ELF all-time interception leader along with Omari Williams from Rhein Fire. Zec wants to show everyone once again after his return and secure the exclusive record.
The fact that the Enthroners have to play twice against Stuttgart Surge, where Zec last time made an interception, comes in handy. The 30-year-old played one year for Stuttgart. Prove it Zec!
