Centurions QB Isaiah Weed - "A great team win in Frankfurt"

As the Frankfurt’s Galaxy last pass of Saturday’s game hit the ground, you could hear a pin drop in the stadium as home fans were shocked by the team's loss to the Cologne Centurions.

The next noise that came piercing through next was the celebration from head coach Jag Bal and the Cologne Centurions cheering a hard fought upset win over the Galaxy. Cologne's second win of the season came through a true team effort as their offense, defense, and special teams all played their role in the upset road victory.

Centurions quarterback Isaiah Weed took a moment to chat to me about what the win meant for a team that has played well this season in a tough Western Conference, yet has only managed 2 wins at the season's halfway point.

“It was a great team win in Frankfurt and something we can build on. We must treat every game the rest of the way as the biggest game of the season taking it one week at a time.”

The veteran international passer Isaiah Weed stats don’t jump off the page from this weekend's game, however, the box score doesn't quite tell the story of his impact.

Cologne's QB comes up clutch

Weed was clutch over and over again for the Centurions using his legs or his arm to convert third downs and keep the Cologne offense on the field. Time and time again he came through in what was a nail-biting thriller of a game. The savvy vet give the credit to his teammates:

“I’m extremely proud of my guys stepping up and handling business the way we needed. We still feel like we left some points out there on the field and we will work on that in practice so we can execute to our full potential. But it was a much needed game to get back in the ‘W’ column.”

Weed ran for 85 yards and a touchdown while throwing for another 228 yards. Cologne’s quarterback spread the ball around masterfully, finding eight different receivers on the day.

Jag Bal steps in at head coach

Besides several close losses on the field, the Centurions have been through adversity in the coaching department as head coach Brandon Gregg left the team due to health issues a week ago. Cologne was guided to the win Saturday by defensive coordinator and veteran European coach Jag Bal.

“Coach Jag has done an awesome job taking the role of head coach, all of us trust and believe in him. He brings a passion for the game which we hope to match every week as a team and to build on the culture of the Centurions.”

Cologne will face off against the Hamburg Sea Devils in what could be another Western Conference classic this Sunday July 21st at 15:25
