Former Barcelona Dragons offensive coordinator Patrick Wennin returns as special teams coordinator
Wennin: “As I was back in the states, I consistently felt a pull to go back to Spain and the European League of Football”.
The Barcelona Dragons announced the hiring of former offensive coordinator Patrick Wennin as their running backs coach special teams coordinator for the 2022 season, as reported by the Spanish franchise. In addition, Wennin will also function as the running game coordinator and assistant head coach.
“The decision was simple when it came down to it. Even though this all went down pretty recently I always felt like I wanted to return because of the players“, Dragons specials teams coordinator and running backs coach Wennin explained. He added: “Those boys are my family. The organization and fans have a special place in my heart. As I was back in the states, I consistently felt a pull to go back to Spain and the European League of Football”.
In 2021, Wennin stunned the European football world with the Dragons 60-51 victory over the Cologne Centurions in week eight of the regular season. It was his first game as the offensive coordinator since Joe Paopao left the Spanish franchise mid-season. Now, the American football coach re-joins the Dragons as the running backs coach and special teams coordinator.
When asked about his return to the Dragons, Wennin pointed at the familiarity with the franchise: “Honestly, this all happened recently. […] Once the Dragons and I spoke again, I knew God’s plan was for me to return. We have some unfinished business“.
Wennin also talked about his goals as a coach for the Dragons in 2022: “Our goals as a team are to keep the momentum of last year rolling”. He added: “Every team in the European League of Football has improved, so it’s only going to get harder. Our job as coaches is to put the players in the right position. They make the plays and finish the job“.
As far as the Dragons fans go, the American football mind only wants to make them happy: “We’re looking to make our fans proud and to give it our all each game“.
