In an interview, Helvetic Guards Head of Communication revealed how the Swiss franchise prepares for their first season in the European League of Football!

The European League of Football already announced four new franchises that will join the league in 2023. Amongst those teams, the Helvetic Guards will be part of the best American football league in Europe from Switzerland.

So far, the Guards have announced a lot of different moves. One of them was the announcement of Head of Communication Toni Zöller. In an interview, Zöller answered a lot of critical questions regarding the 2023 season and their preparation to be a competitive franchise in the European League of Football.

How far along are the Helvetic Guards with their preparation for the 2023 season?

We are fully on track and moving along the timelines we have set. It is great to see how the things begin to shape and come together for the first and only Swiss European League of Football franchise. Our athletic department is doing a great job of assembling the coaching staff and scouting the players.

As the Head of Communication for the Guards, are there already combines planned to search for players joining your franchise?

Yes, we have our first ever combine planned for the weekend of the 1st and 2October. It is an open combine where every player who signed up can take part. The event will split up in the physical drills like a 40-yard dash and positional drills, so we get to see how the players are moving.

What is the Guard’s approach to gamedays? What can the fans expect?

Besides building the team our main focus is on creating a great fan experience. The concept for that is a one-day-vacation in America. We want to make sure that every fan who is coming to our gamedays will have a great time, even if they don’t even know what American football is. From pregame parties and tailgating to kids-events, halftime-shows and after game meet-ups, everybody will have a reason to come to our gamedays and enjoy their time.

What are the next steps for the Guards in the coming weeks and months?

Over the last couple weeks, we had a lot of things going on in the background and we plan to finish all those things up soon. We are in very good talks with potential head coaches and from there we will sign the rest of the coaching staff. We already have a pretty good idea on who will be on board.

With the coaching staff in place our focus shifts to the combine and signing the players for the 2023 season. Since it is only six more Weeks until the combine, we’re pretty excited for that because it will be the first time that we see all the players in person on the working out field. We also plan to have the combine open for fans, so they have the possibility to meet the players and coaches for the first time. After the combine we plan on having the roster finished as soon as possible and start preparing the players for the upcoming season.
