Hot Take Friday: New standout pass rusher
Welcome to Hot Take Friday! Every week I present you my newest HOT TAKE for the upcoming European League of Football season.
The European League has had some dominant pass rushes last year. Some of the best, like two-time Defensive Player of the Year Kyle Kitchens, now Rhein Fire defensive end AlejandroFernandez and standout defensive tackle Aslan Zetterberg, have already signed contracts for the 2023 season. Besides the returning difference makers, there have been some blockbuster signings like former Ohio State defensive end Darius Slade, to the Barcelona Dragons, or three-time FCS All-American Solomon Brown to the Wrocław Panthers, just to name a few.

But despite a fierce pass rush competition with many talented players that could make the top five, I put my money on one person to be in it: Stuttgart Surge linebacker Sasan Jelvani.
Jelvani has been a monster ever since his first full season on the Saarland Hurricanes men’s team. The Saarbrücken native has been extremely productive at the inside, as well as at theoutside linebacker during his career, which offers Surge defensive coordinator Johannes Brenner plenty of flexibility. I think that Jelvani will play on the outside, though.
After leading the GFL 2 in sacks and tackles for loss during the 2019 season and the GFL in both categories in 2021, Jelvani was destined for the European League of Football, but a torn bicep delayed his league debut to 2023.
Coming back healthy and at full strength, I am convinced that Sasan Jelvani will remind everyone that he was known as one of the most dominant defensive players in Europe for a reason by playing an amazing season with double digit sacks and tackles for loss.
