Throwback to the historic Championship Game 2024

On September 7, 2025, the grand final of the European League of Football will take place in Stuttgart’s MHP Arena. At 3 p.m. CET, the Stuttgart Surge will battle the Vienna Vikings for the European crown. For the Surge, it’s their very first Championship Game – and a home game to remember.
But before the spotlight shifts to Stuttgart, it’s worth looking back at 2024. Last year’s Championship Game made history: Rhein Fire overcame the previously unbeaten Vikings 51-20, becoming the first team to win two ELF titles and the first to secure back-to-back championships.
Rhein Fire makes history – Vikings undone by costly mistakes
The Vikings did not start poorly. Quarterback Ben Holmes quickly found his rhythm, and wide receiver Reece Horn caught the first touchdown. But miscues piled up: fumbles, penalties, and a missed extra point killed their momentum.
Rhein Fire seized every opportunity. MVP quarterback Jadrian Clark showcased his deep-ball precision, while Calvin McKnight Jr. added a 44-yard touchdown before halftime to secure a commanding 30-13 lead. By the break, the game was virtually decided.

Second half: Rhein Fire leaves no doubt
The dominance continued after halftime. Clark kept distributing the ball with confidence, running back Glen Toonga found the end zone, and Aaron Donkor’s pressure on defense forced sacks and turnovers.
Reece Horn did all he could, finishing the day with three touchdown receptions, but even his stellar performance couldn’t prevent Vienna’s defeat. The 51-20 result was one of the toughest losses in Vikings history.
Stuttgart Surge aims to write their own history
Now, those very Vikings face the Stuttgart Surge in the 2025 Championship Game. For Stuttgart, it’s a historic opportunity: their first-ever shot at the title, in front of their home fans.
For Vienna, the mission is clear – redemption. After the heartbreak of 2024, they are determined to return to the top and prove once again that they belong among Europe’s elite.
Countdown to the Championship Game 2025 in Stuttgart
The stage is set: the hungry Surge with the home-field advantage against the proud Vikings, eager for revenge. On September 7 at 3 p.m. CET in the MHP Arena Stuttgart, the European football will crown its next champion.
