The Stuttgart Surge have advanced to the 2025 European League of Football Championship game after an impressive 27-13 victory over the Munich Ravens. A major factor in the win was wide receiver Michael Harley Jr., who delivered an outstanding performance. On September 7th, Surge will face the Vienna Vikings at the MHP Arena in Stuttgart — a historic ELF moment for the franchise.

The 27-year-old American showcased why he is one of the league’s top receivers. With 9 receptions for 144 yards and a touchdown, Harley Jr. outperformed the entire Munich Ravens passing offense. His contribution was not only statistically impressive but also game-changing.

Harley Jr. on his mission: "One more game to bring it home"

After the semifinal, Harley Jr. spoke with ProSieben about the victory and the upcoming showdown: "We got one more game left, so we have to go out and execute and bring it home."

The championship game in Stuttgart holds special significance for him. "My main goal was to bring it home. I know a lot of guys that grew up or play soccer next to the MHP Arena. That game means a lot to them. That’s why I sacrifice anything to bring it home. One more game to prove it all."

NFL and CFL experience as a foundation for success

Michael Harley Jr. brings an impressive football resume to Europe. After playing for the Miami Hurricanes in college, he made his way to the NFL in 2022 as an undrafted free agent with the Cleveland Browns. He also spent time in the United Football League and was later signed by the Miami Dolphins. His last professional stop before Europe was with the Calgary Stampeders in the CFL.

Harley Jr. joined Stuttgart mid-season to replace the injured Jeff Cotton Jr. Despite joining late, he immediately became a key contributor, finishing the regular season with 757 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns, ranking ninth in the league.

Strong connection with Quarterback Reilly Hennessey

A crucial factor in Harley’s success is his chemistry with quarterback Reilly Hennessey. Their bond goes beyond the field. "Meet him outside of football, go get together. Sometimes I sleep at his house when I am tired of practice," Harley Jr. shared, highlighting the close connection between the quarterback and his top receiver.

This connection paid off against the Ravens. Hennessey repeatedly found Harley Jr. in crucial moments, making it nearly impossible for Munich’s defense to stop them.

Historic Final in Stuttgart

For the Surge, the final at the MHP Arena is historic. For the first time in franchise history, the team will play an ELF Championship Game in their home city. The stadium, home to Bundesliga soccer team VfB Stuttgart, will become the center of European American football on September 7th.

With Harley Jr. in top form and strong support from local fans, Stuttgart Surge dreams of capping off an impressive season. The Vienna Vikings are a tough, experienced opponent, but Surge have proven they can beat anyone — especially when Michael Harley Jr. performs at his peak.
