Saturday Recap Week 14: Run for the first seed and more

The playoffs are just around the corner.

(11-1) Hamburg Sea Devils @ (8-4) Barcelona Dragons

It was the expected game in Reus. Both teams were already qualified for the playoffs but gave it their all once again. Glen Toonga directly scored three touchdowns in the first half, so the Hamburg Sea Devils could go into halftime with a comfortable 21-7 lead.

For the Dragons, just like the Sea Devils, some backup players went into the game. The game, however, was interrupted at the halftime whistle for about 45 minutes. The reason: a thunderstorm rolling over the stadium. The thunderstorm turned out to be game-changing. The Dragons managed to give the Sea Devils a fight in the traditional Hamburg weather.

The Spaniards came back into the game for a 21-21 draw which could only be prevented by a field goal seconds prevented by Eric Schlomm. The game ended 24-21 and with it secured the first seed in the playoffs for the Sea Devils. The possible opponents: Frankfurt Galaxy, Rhein Fire, Raiders Tirol or Berlin Thunder. The Barcelona Dragons will meet the Vienna Vikings in Vienna.

(3-9) Cologne Centurions @ (1-11) Istanbul Rams

The Istanbul Rams showed good resistance as in the previous games. However, the Centurions went into this game in a detached manner. Creative play-calling and the use of all receivers brought the victory for the Centurions in the end.

Even though the Rams were able to answer early in the Centurions' debut, with Robinson a real top receiver on their side, the Centurions did not let themselves be rattled. After taking a 30-20 lead into halftime, the game ended 43-30.

Both teams head into their next offseason, and for the Rams, their first real offseason, starting Monday. There may be changes on both sides. Neither reached the playoffs.
