The collaboration agreement between the European League of Football and the NFL has facilitated the recovery of the legendary franchise

Today, March 24th, 2021, it is exactly 30 years since the first game played by the former NFL Europe Barcelona Dragons

We were born under the name Gladiators Football, being the only franchise in Spain that was part of the new European League of Football, which develops its first season the incoming summer. From the end of 2020 until this first quarter of 2021 everything was directed to organize and work on all the details like Gladiators Football.

But on March 9th, 2021 there was a turning point: the European League of Football and the NFL reached an important collaboration agreement between both leagues. In that document appeared stipulated a salient point; the transfer of the naming rights of the names of the teams that served in the former NFL Europe.

This point opened the doors for us to be able to recover this mythical European American football franchise: the Barcelona Dragons. A great team with which we share many characteristics. Our desire and objective are to recover that magic, that special charm and the myth of what the Barcelona Dragons were between 1991 and 2003. We inherited all those aspects to put them back on the front line in the European League of Football.

The Barcelona Dragons that lived through this first stage of American football in Europe were born in 1991, competed for twelve years and due to circumstances ended up disappearing in 2003. They played their first game on March 24th, 1991, at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, winning by 7-19. There was no better date than this day, today March 24th, 2021, 30 years after that first meeting, to announce that we are back...

We also want to announce what our home will be, the field where we will play our home games.

The stadium of the Barcelona Dragons for this first season of the European League of Football will be the Estadi Municipal de Reus. Here we will play the five home games of the regular season that will be held between the months of June and August.
