A blockbuster signing on Super Bowl Sunday! As the Rhein Fire announced, the franchise has signed Jim Tomsula, former NFL coach, as their head coach for the upcoming European League of Football season. In Tomsula, the franchise has their most important coaching position set. The experienced coach can work with a talented and experienced player portfolio.

Making history in Europe and the U.S.

After working for Catawba College as a defensive line and strength and conditioning coach in 1989, Tomsula went over the Atlantic to join several franchises in the NFL Europe, starting with the London Monarchs, going further to the Scottish Claymores, Berlin Thunder and lastly the Rhein Fire as the head coach in 2006.

After the end of NFL Europe, Tomsula went on to work as the defensive line and interim head coach for the San Fransisco 49ers between 2007 to 2014, officially taking over the head coaching duties in 2015. The defensive specialist transferred to the Washington Redskins*, now Commanders, and Dallas Cowboys to work as the defensive line coach until 2020.

Coach Tomsula won the World Bowl with the Berlin Thunder as a defensive coordinator and now wants to develop the game in Europe even further.

For Rhein Fire, the offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator positions are still open.
