Vienna Vikings sign veteran DB Divine Buckrham
The Vienna Vikings have signed veteran defensive back Divine Buckrham. The ELF veteran becomes the first American import on defense to sign with Vienna and the third American import overall. Last year's runner ups hope to upgrade their defense with the addition of Buckrham who brings big time experience to their secondary.
The ELF veteran stands at 1,83 m and 89 kg and will be entering his third team in as many ELF seasons. Last year Buckrham was a integral part of the Frankfurt Galaxy defense making 60 tackles and 3.5 tackles for a loss, as well as 13 pass break-ups. In 2023 Buckrham played for the Vikings arch rivals the Tirol Raiders making 58 tackles, 5.5 tackles for a loss along with nine pass breakups and three interceptions. The experienced defender is ready to help the Vikings secondary as he looks forward to playing for a contender:
“I am beyond excited to join the franchise in Vienna and to do my part helping this team win.” – DB Divine Buckrham
Prior to joining the ELF, the 25-years-old played in six games for the San Antonio Brahmas in the XFL in 2023, he appeared in six contests for the team and recorded four total tackles.. In 2022, he was active for the Potsdam Royals in the GFL, where he amassed 73 tackles, three interceptions and 10 deflected passes. The US-American is a product of Kiski School, Lehigh and Lamar University, playing in the Division I FCS.
For Buckrham, playing for the Vikings has long been something he has contemplated, now it seems the timing is right as the Vikings put pen to paper with the accomplished defensive back.
"Since my time in Europe, Coach Calaycay and I made a great connection and have always kept in touch. This was a move that has been in the works for some time! I am beyond excited to join the franchise in Vienna and to do my part helping this team win a championship again. I look forward to joining the guys, meeting teammates, coaches, and fans in person very soon. 2025 will be an exciting season. "
Vienna Vikings Head coach Chris Calaycay has had his eye on Buckrham for some time now:
"Divine and I have been talking for the past two seasons, and we can finally welcome him to our franchise. We love his versatility, intelligence for the game, and
playmaking ability. In addition, he can play all the secondary positions in our defense. Divine is a true weapon to have. I am excited to have him here in Vienna with us in 2025."
Buckrham joins quarterback Ben Holmes and receiver Reece Horn as the three American players signed so far. The new defensive back is a new face to this Vikings team that has embraced the mantra of "run it back" re-signing several of the last years standouts as they hope to get back to the championship game in 2025.
