Vikings re-sign IPPP Participant Florian Bierbaumer
The Vienna Vikings extend their contract with the next important player in their offense. Tight end Florian Bierbaumer signs a new one-year contract.
“Our team chemistry, this brotherhood in Vienna, is incomparable and probably unique in Europe. As a Styrian, I now feel almost more at home in Vienna than in Graz. Because the team spirit and the team dynamic are simply captivating,” explains Biebaumer his extension. He adds: “I have top coaching here in Vienna, super professional conditions and the best teammates you could wish for.”
The 26-year-old homegrown therefore is facing his fourth year in the league. Since his debut in 2022, Bierbaumer has impressed above all with his size, strong physique and ability to catch passes. The Vikings fans have nicknamed him “Cheat code”.
Bierbaumer was selected to the ELF All-Star Team in 2023 and 2024. He also won the title of IFAF European Champion as part of the Austrian national team. In 2024, he even participated in the NFL International Player Pathway Program (IPPP).
Vikings head coach Chris Calaycay is also clearly delighted with the contract extension: “Returning with a short preseason because of the NFL IPP experience, Flo joined us with an injury that lingered the entire year. Now that he is healthy again there are a few, if any, players like him in the league. His size and athleticism are just tough to match physically for defenders, and he just always seems to come down with the ball. Special is a word to describe him, and he adds that tough match up over the middle or on the outside.“
Bierbaumer was repeatedly slowed down by injuries. Nevertheless, he delivered impressive numbers in 26 ELF games. His stats include 79 receptions, 1167 total receiving yards and 16 touchdowns.
