Vienna Vikings sign Team Austria HC Max Sommer as their offensive coordinator

After already joining the Vikings as a consultant towards the end of last season, Max Sommer will now take over the offensive coordinator role for the 2022 champions. The Austrian, who just won the European Championship as the head coach of team Austria, seems like a perfect fit for the philosophy for the Vikings.

Vikings head coach Chris Calaycay is more than happy with his new coordinator, who is a longtime friend and national team colleague of him:

“I am extremely happy that we were able to sign Max. Now we can officially announce Coach Sommer as our new Offensive Coordinator. That is great news, and it really makes me proud going into the 2024 season with an Austrian OC. I have the utmost respect for Max as a person and as a coach and I think that he is one of the most brilliant coaching minds in not only Austria but all of Europe. For him it’s a natural next step to coach on this level in the European League of Football.”

Sommer himself has high ambitions for the upcoming season:

“The goal of playing for a championship in front of 55.000 people at the Veltins-Arena is what’s driving us.”

Will the Vienna Vikings return to the top of Europe in 2024?
