Vienna Vikings sign Division I safety Hunter Nichols

The Vienna Vikings have found their fourth and final US import. Safety Hunter Nichols will join the 2022 ELF champions for the 2024 season.

Defensive standout and return specialist

Known for his defensive skills and ability to return the ball, Nichols began his football career at the University of San Diego in 2018. He played as a free safety in 47 games for the Toreros, earning multiple accolades including the PFL co-Special Teams Player of the Year and a First-Team All-PFL selection in 2020. In 2022, he was named a First-Team DB and returner. Nichols finished his college career with impressive stats, recording 244 total tackles, 17 tackles for loss, eight interceptions, 28 defended passes, and two forced fumbles on defense. As a return specialist, he recorded a total of 999 yards and one touchdown.

Vikings head coach Chris Calaycay is looking forward to seeing his newest import play:

„This season will be a first for the Vikings in the European League of Football by signing two Americans to our defensive secondary.  We will be adding another versatile playmaker in Hunter, his skills and play style will compliment what we have done in the offseason to our defensive front and adds to an already outstanding defensive back crew here in Vienna."
