Vienna Vikings re-sign wide receiver Weston Carr

Standout wide receiver and former All-American Weston Carr will return for another season with the Vienna Vikings in 2023.

Outstanding career in the US and overseas

The 26-year-old, who spent most of his college football career at Azusa Pacific, is the program’s all-time receiving yards (3005) and receiving touchdowns (36) leader, while also holding the record for most single-season receiving yards (1458). He went on to finish his collegiate career at Penn State, before making the move over the pond in 2021.

In Europe, Carr was GFL All-Star for the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes, before signing with the Vikings for their first season in the ELF. Sadly, the talented wide receiver suffered a season-ending injury in a pre-season scrimmage, forcing him to sit out the 2022 season. After recovering from his injury, the American returned to Vienna, where he played a great 2023 season. In nine regular season games, Carr recorded 31 catches for 636 yards and five touchdowns, before putting on a firework against the Surge in the playoffs, catching nine passes for 114 yards and a touchdown.

Big goals for 2024

Vienna Vikings head coach Chris Calaycay is happy to have his American pass catcher back:

„Getting Weston back is huge for our offense and team. Returning for his third year and working with a player of his character and caliber is huge for our franchise and, and it indicates what our offense will be like in 2024.“

Carr himself, is looking forward to the 2024 season and has set big goals for him and his team:

„I’m returning to Vienna because of the culture and brotherhood that’s been built and is second to none in Europe.  Last year we didn’t reach anywhere close to our potential and my goal this year is to be the most dominant offense in the league.“
