In high school, Holmes was a multi-sport athlete, excelling in basketball, baseball, and track, but it was on the football field where he truly shined. Starting as a wide receiver, he switched to quarterback in his senior year and led Orchard Park High School to a state championship, earning accolades such as All-District, All-County, and All-State honors.
Holmes' college career began at Nassau Community College, where he became a standout quarterback, throwing for nearly 3,000 yards and 29 touchdowns in 18 games. His exceptional performance earned him JuCo All-American honors and a transfer to Tarleton State University. At Tarleton State, Holmes cemented his legacy, leading the team to a 24-2 record over two seasons and amassing 6,200 passing yards and 60 touchdowns. He was a two-time All-American and Conference Player of the Year.
After college, Holmes' professional career included stints in the Indoor Football League with the Arizona Rattlers, the USFL with the New Jersey Generals, and the CFL with teams like the Montreal Alouettes, Edmonton Elks, and Toronto Argonauts. Notably, he won the Grey Cup with the Argonauts in 2022.
Now, as he prepares to join the Vienna Vikings, Holmes brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success. Vienna's head coach Chris Calaycay has expressed excitement about Holmes' addition to the team, highlighting his leadership, work ethic, and the positive impact he is expected to have both on and off the field.
Holmes' move to the ELF represents not just a continuation of his football journey, but also a new opportunity to showcase his skills on an international stage. As he transitions to life in Vienna, Holmes is ready to make his mark and lead the Vikings to new heights in the upcoming season, possibly be crowned by the Championship.
