The reigning back-to-back champions of the European League of Football, Rhein Fire, have made a significant change to their front office as the team prepares for the crucial final stretch of the season. Daniel Thywissen, a 45-year-old from Meerbusch, is stepping in as the new Managing Director, moving from his previous role as a shareholder into the day-to-day operations of the franchise.

Thywissen takes over as Managing Director

Thywissen will now lead the franchise from the Rhein Fire office at the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena in Duisburg, working closely with the dedicated office staff to create the best conditions for the upcoming weeks of the ELF season. “The playoffs are within reach, and the team around Head Coach Richard Kent wants to celebrate many more football festivals with the fans this year,” said Thywissen, outlining his ambitions for the remainder of the season.

For Thywissen, this role is deeply personal. He has been connected to the franchise for nearly three decades: “Rhein Fire has accompanied me through my life and will continue to do so,” said Thywissen, recalling how he earned pocket money as a 15-year-old helping set up at the old Rheinstadion in Düsseldorf back in 1995.

Max Paatz shifts to a new role

The previous Managing Director, Max Paatz, has stepped down from his position at his own request but will remain an integral part of the organization. Paatz will now focus fully on the sporting side of operations as General Manager and Chief Operating Officer Sport. In this new role, he will coordinate team management, training operations, and Gamedays for Rhein Fire.

Thywissen praised his predecessor: “The expertise and network of Max are unmatched in European football. I’m glad to have him continue with Rhein Fire in this newly created role.”

Looking ahead to the final stretch

With the playoffs approaching, Rhein Fire remains focused on defending its title. Thywissen expressed gratitude to his former co-shareholders for their trust and shared his vision for the future: “Together, we want to create emotions, unforgettable moments, and great live sports - both on and off the field.”

As Rhein Fire continues its campaign, the leadership changes aim to provide the stability and focus needed for another deep playoff run in the European League of Football.
