Stuttgart Surge sign Jan Weinreich for injured Hennessey

After the injury of starting quarterback Reilly Hennessey, Stuttgart Surge had to look for a new quarterback. Now they found a quarterback with a lot of experience in the European League of Football in Jan Weinreich. In the last two seasons, the German quarterback played for the Cologne Centurions. The 26-year-old was a free agent.

Statement Jan Weinreich: “I choose to come back and play football because playing for the Surge excites me. I’m happy to be able to play for such a great coaching staff and join a team that from what I have been told operates like a family.”

The 26-year-old Weinreich began his career in 2009 with the Cologne Crocodiles, where he played until 2019. After a season with the Stockholm Mean Machines, he returned to Cologne to play in the European League of Football for the Cologne Centurions. There he threw for 1700 yards and 16 touchdowns in the 2021 season. In 2022, he improved to 3100 yards and 29 touchdowns. That put him among the league's top five quarterbacks in both years. He was also the League’s Man of Honor in 2021. Weinreich knows head coach Jordan Neuman from some time during the 2019 season in Schwäbisch Hall.

US-American quarterback Reilly Hennessey was placed on IR.
