Stuttgart Surge re-sign two-time All-Star Mitchel Fettig
Stuttgart Surge surprises its fans with the first key signing for their defense. After the German team has concentrated fully on its offense so far this offseason, the contract of defensive back Mitchel Fettig has now been extended.
"I’m excited to continue building on the relationships I have with all my brothers”, says Fettig. He adds: “To finish what we set out for when we all started and pursue something meaningful for
each other and the city of Stuttgart.”
In 2023, the now 28-year-old American made his debut in the ELF and for Stuttgart Surge. Fettig immediately became a regular starter and secured himself a place in the ELF second All-Star team. Performances that he was also able to build on last season. This time, Fettig was selected for the first All-Star team.
The defensive back played a total of 26 games for Surge, in which he made 130 tackles, including 7.5 for loss, 2.5 sacks and nine interceptions. He not only benefits from his strong athleticism, but also from his attitude: “I will push myself and my teammates around me to our limits.”

Fettig began his football career in 2006 at Olympia High School in Washington, where he also played wide receiver and running back. In 2014, he transferred to Eastern Washington University to pursue a degree in criminal justice. This is where he first met quarterback Reilly Hennessey, who also signed a new contract with Stuttgart Surge.
In 2020, he was drafted into the Canadian Football League by the Calgary Stampeders before coming to Europe two years later. Fettig played for the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns, with whom he won the German Bowl and the CEFL Bowl in his first season.
With Mitchel Fettig, Stuttgart Surge has signed a first defensive cornerstone. The team from the West Division is therefore pursuing a clear goal: to reach the ELF Championship 2025. This will take place on September 7th in the MHP Arena in Stuttgart.
