The Hamburg Sea Devils have made a major move for the upcoming European League of Football (ELF) season by appointing Shuan Fatah as their new Head Coach. Fatah, one of the most successful coaches in European American football, will bring his wealth of experience to Hamburg in an effort to guide the team back to the top of the league.

This change also means a farewell to Matt Johnson, who led the Sea Devils through the 2024 season. “The Hamburg Sea Devils and our Head Coach Matt Johnson are parting ways. We thank Matt for his commitment and leadership throughout the season. He helped build a strong foundation for the franchise's future, and we wish him all the best,” said General Manager Mark Weitz.

Return to Hamburg for Championship-winning coach

Fatah's return to Hamburg is seen as a huge boost for the Sea Devils. He is a four-time World Bowl champion, six-time German Bowl winner, and five-time Austrian champion. In addition, Fatah is currently the Head Coach of the German national team. "Shuan Fatah brings incredible experience and the passion we need to get back to the top of the league," Weitz added.

For Fatah, Hamburg holds a special place in his heart, having been a part of the Sea Devils back in the NFL Europe days. "When the call from Hamburg came, I knew it was time to give something back to this city," he said, expressing his excitement for the challenge ahead. "Hamburg has always celebrated American football like no other city in Germany."

Building for the future

After a challenging season, Fatah is focused on reigniting the team’s spirit. "Wearing the Sea Devils helmet must be a privilege again," he said. While the specific goals for the upcoming season depend on the final team lineup, Fatah remains clear on one point: "I’m always ‘in it to win it’."

With Fatah's leadership, the Sea Devils aim to once again become a powerhouse in the ELF. The league and its fans will certainly be watching closely as one of Europe's most experienced coaches takes the helm of one of its most storied franchises.
