#RoadToDuisburg: Viva con Agua Charity Flag Football Game explained

Flag Football is a non-contact version of American football. Instead of tackling, the flag of the ball carrier must be pulled out of the belt, and only the pulling of the ball carrier’s flag is allowed. There is no physical contact allowed during the entire game. It’s different but definitely fun to watch and play. And the sport is also popular in Duisburg, the location of Europe’s biggest football event. So popular that the Duisburg Dockers are playing in the first German league in 5-on-5 flag.

Flag Football for Water

In Flag Football, whether it is 5-on-5 or 9-on-9 flag football, there are eight attempts on a drive, with four attempts for each half of the field. The start of one play will happen with a snap through the legs of a center, like in all American football. A play is called dead when a flag is ripped.

For the final, the European League of Football has planned something special regarding flag football. With Viva con Agua, a charity organization which has set itself the vision WATER FOR ALL - ALL FOR WATER, a Charity Flag Football Game was launched on September 23. Celebrities from Europe are playing against each other with teams led by Berlin Thunder Co-Owner Björn Werner and former Sea Devils player Kasim Edebali.

Get a ticket - support a good cause

The organization supports water projects worldwide, especially in East and South Africa, and relies on sustainable WASH approaches. Its goal is to ensure that all people have access to clean drinking water, hygiene facilities and basic sanitation. With all sold tickets, those water projects are being supported, while all fans have the chance to support the organization all year long.
