Rhein Fire sign former Ravens head coach John Shoop as quarterback coach

Further reinforcement for the reigning champions. The Rhein Fire have signed former Munich Ravens head coach John Shoop as the new Senior Offensive Assistant and Quarterbacks Coach for 2024. The 54-year-old can look back on a successful coaching career in college football and the NFL. At the age of just 32, Shoop was promoted to Offensive Coordinator of the Chicago Bears and held the position for three years.

From the NFL to the ELF

After stints with the Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Oakland Raiders, the US American worked as offensive coordinator for the North Carolina Tar Heels (2007-2011) and Purdue Boilermakers (2013-2015). The quarterback guru is also no stranger to Europe. After spending parts of the 2022 ELF season as Offensive Quality Control Coach with the Hamburg Sea Devils, Shoop was head coach of the Munich Ravens in 2023.

"Excited about the chance"

For the Rhein Fire, he will work with the offensive coaching staff and quarterbacks Rohat Dagdelen and league's MVP Jadrian Clark. Coach Shoop is looking forward to his time in Düsseldorf: "I am grateful and excited about the chance to be part of Rhein Fire. I have a lot of respect for Coach Tomsula. Fire has an outstanding coaching staff and I have already learned a lot. I hope that this season I can make a significant contribution to American football continuing to flourish in Europe."
