Raiders Tirol sign Super Bowl-winning coach Mike Waufle

The Raiders Tirol have found another high-caliber coach for their staff. Defensive Line coach Mike Waufle will join the team for the 2024 season.

The 69-year-old can look back at an impressive 39-year coaching career in the college ranks and the NFL. He was a defensive line coach at Utah State, Fresno State, UCLA, Oregon State and California, before joining the Oakland Raiders in 1998. After six seasons with the Raiders, Waufle signed with the New York Giants, where he coached for five seasons and won Super Bowl XLII, with his unit sacking Tom Brady five times and spoiling the Patriots’ undefeated season.

Back from retirement

In New York is where he crossed paths with now Raiders HC Jim Herrmann, who was the Giants’ linebacker coach in 2009. Following his tenure with the Giants, Waufle coached for the Raiders, Rams, and Bills, before announcing his retirement after 20 years in the NFL following the 2017 season.

Now, the Super Bowl champion is coming out of retirement to coach overseas. Expect Waufle to bring his single-gap scheme to the 4-3 defense of the Raiders, that features plenty of talent. Will the Raiders’ defensive line be one of the scariest in the ELF in 2024?
