Raiders Tirol sign defensive lineman Berend Grube

The Hamburg Sea Devils are losing yet another pass rusher to the Raiders. Berend Grube is following Robert Lachmann to Austria.

Collegiate and GFL 2 career

After starting his career with the Lübeck Cougars youth team, Grube played one season at Peters Township High School. From 2010-2013, the German played at Thiel College. Grube played kicker and tight end for the Division III program, before returning to his hometown of Lübeck in 2014. After playing one season on offense, the athlete started playing snaps on the defensive line in 2015 but tore his ACL, which forced him to sit out for one and a half seasons. By 2018, Grube had developed into one of the best defensive players in the GFL 2 and was set to join the Elmshorn Fighting Pirates in the GFL before the season got canceled due to COVID-19.

Key contributor to a dominant defense

He joined the Sea Devils in 2021 and has been a key piece of their defensive line ever since. He made the 2021 All-Star team and played in the first-ever ELF Championship Game, in which his Sea Devils fell short to the Frankfurt Galaxy. Grube continued to be an important contributor to Hamburg’s defensive success, recording 103 tackles, 25 TFL, 16 sacks, and four forced fumbles throughout three years.

After a great 2023 season, which earned him the No. 9 spot on the Top 100 list, the 32-year-old has chosen to search for a new adventure. Can he help to get the Raiders back on track?
