Private equity company "D2D4" invests in ELF
The European League of Football (ELF) has received prominent support: wind power pioneer and successful entrepreneur Klaus Meier and his private equity company "D2D4", based in Bremen, have secured a ten percent stake in the "Champions League" of European football.
"D2D4's investment is a huge win for the European League of Football. Klaus Meier and his team not only bring capital, but also valuable know-how and a strong network to our start-up. He will help us to further develop the league in all areas and tap into the enormous potential of European football. His commitment also underlines the attractiveness and growth potential of the European League of Football”, says ELF Managing Director Zeljko Karajica.
"The ELF is one of the most exciting projects in European sport, it has convinced us with its vision and dynamism as well as its continental and innovative approach beyond sport. We see great potential in the league - both in sporting and economic terms. American football has a rapidly growing fan base in Europe and we will contribute to further igniting this enthusiasm and establishing the ELF as an attractive brand as part of a long-term partnership", says "D2D4" Managing Director Heinz Kierchhoff.
"D2D4" invests in people and their ideas related to sustainability. To date, the company has invested in companies in the fields of neighborhood development, energy management, leisure and tourism, retail, AI and data science, logistics and food. By investing in the European League of Football, "D2D4" is expanding its portfolio to include a sports investment.
However, Klaus Meier is not entering a completely new field: since January, the doctor of law, a thought leader in the field of renewable energies and technologies, has been part of an eight-member regional alliance that acquired around 18% of the shares in SV Werder Bremen GmbH & Co KGaA and is supporting the traditional Bundesliga club as a strategic partner.
The European League of Football was launched in 2021 and has experienced strong growth since then. Last season, 17 franchises from nine nations took part in three conferences. In September, Rhein Fire secured the title for the second time in a row with a win in the Championship Game against the Vienna Vikings in front of a record ELF crowd of 41,364 spectators at FC Schalke 04's Veltins-Arena.
