© RTLOn the second day of the NFL draft, Cologne native Marlin Klein (tight end, University of Michigan) was selected by the Houston Texans in the second round with the 59th overall pick. This makes him the highest-drafted German player in NFL history, following Björn Werner and Sebastian Vollmer.
Marlin Klein on his draft moment: "It’s hard to put this into words right now. I think of the little boy in Germany who used to watch the NFL and has dreamed of playing at this level himself one day. Today, that dream has become a reality. But at the same time, I know: This is just the beginning. I'm grateful for all the support along the way, and now the real work begins."
Marlin Klein on his journey so far: "Without my family and friends, my coaches, and everyone who has supported me, I wouldn't be here today. There were moments that weren't always easy. But it was precisely those moments that shaped me. I don't take any of this for granted, and I'll work every day as if I have to earn it all over again."
Marlin Klein on his goals in the NFL: "I've always believed I can compete at this level. The Texans are a team that believed in me - and I'll do everything I can to repay that trust. I'm not here just to be part of the roster. I want to make an impact, I want to help decide games, achieve the greatest possible success, and I want to make a name for myself in the NFL."
Klein made a name for himself with the Michigan Wolverines, one of the most prominent programs in College football. There, he worked his way up from a backup player to a starter and eventually even became team captain. In the 2025 season, he recorded 24 catches for 248 yards and one touchdown.
