MVP Race Update: Where do the candidates stand?

We are now through eight thrilling weeks of action in the European League of Football. Having crossed the halfway point, let's take a look at who our MVP candidates are and what they’ve done to raise or lower their stock.

The Front Runner: RB Glen Toonga - Rhein Fire

Another week, another 200+ yard game from Glen Toonga. This week in just a half of work he rushed for 231 yards and three touchdowns. Currently Toonga is putting up video game like numbers with 1,205 yards and 19 touchdowns one the season.

The British veteran is on the cusp of some major ELF milestones, as he’s one touchdown away from reaching 50 career rushing touchdowns and only three scores away from breaking Madre London’s single season rushing record of 22.

The Challenger: QB Reilly Hennessey - Stuttgart Surge

Hennessey is putting up the best fight as an alternative MVP choice throwing for 1,481 yards and 18 touchdowns while leading the Surge to a perfect 6-0 record. Better yet, the veteran has thrown only 2 interceptions all season, giving him by far the league’s best QBR of any starter.

If he can continue to keep the Surge perfect and put up numbers he could earn himself some hardware at the ELF Honors.

The Dark Horse: QB Zach Edwards - Paris Musketeers

Aging like fine French wine, year two in Paris is going swimmingly for Edwards and the Musketeers as they currently own an impressive 5-1 record. Edwards has been putting up big numbers this season throwing for 1,371 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Always a threat to run, he's added 6 touchdowns and 414 yards on the ground this season, giving the Paris offense another dimension for defenses to prepare for.

Honorable Mention:QB Ben Holmes - Vienna Vikings

Often MVP goes to the best player on the league's best team. Holmes and the Vikings can still fit that mold. After missing a few weeks with a injury Holmes has thrown for nine touchdowns and 724 yards in his last three games. While his numbers aren't as eye popping as some other quarterbacks this season. The Vikings quarterback is still leading a dangerous offense on a undefeated team. At the end of the day, continueing to win is what could lead to Holmes being named 2024 ELF MVP.
