Munich Ravens hosted Raiders Tirol in the highest scoring Week 1 game ever
Dominik Krauss

The Tirol Raiders spoiled the Munich Ravens’ European League of Football debut in front of 6.245 fans at the Alpenbauer Sportpark, by winning 59-38. The Munich offense showed flashes of excellence, especially early on, scoring a touchdown on each of their first three drives. Despite their great offensive performance, the Ravens struggled a lot on special teams, allowing Jarvis McClam to return the first three kick-offs for 193 yards and a touchdown.
Speaking of McClam, the former GFL All-Star played an MVP of the Week worthy game, recording over 400 all-purpose yards along with a passing, a receiving and a return touchdown. The other Raiders’ receivers contributed to the score as well, with 3 touchdowns by Philipp Haun and two by last seasons’ Rookie of the Year Marco Schneider.
In the second half the Raiders’ defense made some adjustments and held up well against the Munich Ravens’ offense. Especially defensive end Niklas Gustav had an impressive showing, in which last season’s First-Team All-Star recorded 4 sacks and 4 TFL.
Takeaways from the game
The Ravens presented themselves well in their first ever game in the European League of Football and will be a competitive team this season, while the Raiders put the league on notice, scoring 59 points, despite standout running back Sandro Platzgummer missing the game due to injury.
