Mid-Season Playoff Picture

The mid-season mark is a great time to take a look at what the playoffs would look like if the season ended today.

Bye Weeks:

#1 Rhein Fire

With a perfect 7-0 record and a point differential of +178, Rhein Fire have secured themselves the #1 seed at the mid-season mark and an additional bye week. Jim Tomsula’s team will take on the lower remaining seed out of the wildcard games in an attempt to make it to the Championship Game at their home stadium on September 24th

#2 Vienna Vikings

The reigning champions are in the same position as they were last year, being the #2 seed for the playoffs. This week, Chris Calaycay’s team will get an extra week of rest before taking on the higher remaining seed of the wildcard round in an effort to make it to back-to-back Championship Games.

Wildcard Round:

#5 Berlin Thunder at #4 Frankfurt Galaxy

Thanks to a 5-2 record and +135 the Thunder currently are the #5 seed. Third time’s the charm for Berlin as they would make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. The Thunder would have to travel to Frankfurt to take on the 5-1 Galaxy, who have a home playoff game thanks to their 0.833 winning percentage. This game in front of the purple hell would be a special one since the two teams have never played each other, despite being in the league since 2021.

#6 Raiders Tirol at #3 Stuttgart Surge

The second wildcard game is the opposite of the first one. The 5-2 Raiders would travel to Stuttgart to take on the 5-1 Conference rival Surge for the third time this season and the fifth time overall. Right now, the Austrian are up 2-1 in their matchups, but Stuttgart won their only duel of the 2023 season and the additional benefit of home fans would make for an interesting encounter between the two best Central Conference teams.
